Private Safari: USD 25–40 per day from everyone in the vehicle combined.
Group Safari in Tanzania: USD 10 per day per client.
These amounts are suggested guidelines to help you plan your safari budget. You can adjust the tip according to the quality of service and your overall experience.
For lodge and camp staff, you may also consider leaving a separate tip through the property’s communal tipping box, where available. This allows other team members who contribute to your stay to share in your appreciation.
For Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru, and other guided mountain hikes, tipping recognises the collective effort of the mountain crew, including guides, assistant guides, porters, and cooks. As a general planning guide, travellers may budget approximately USD 200–350 per climber for a typical multi-day Kilimanjaro trek. The appropriate amount depends on the route, number of days, group size, and size of the mountain crew.
Your mountain team or tour organiser can explain the recommended tipping amounts and distribution before your climb, helping you prepare in advance.
For safaris, you can give your tip directly to your guide at the end of your trip. For mountain climbs, tips are commonly collected and distributed among the crew at the end of the trek, following the agreed arrangement. Carrying cash in small denominations can make tipping easier, and it is advisable to confirm accepted currencies before travelling.
